About Us
Friends of the Alexandra Palace Theatre was set up in 2002 to support the Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust in restoring and reopening the Victorian theatre, which had been dark since 1934.
The theatre was successfully refurbished in a £28 million regeneration project, with financial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, Haringey Council and donations from the public, and reopened in December 2018.
It has thrived with a mix of entertainment and events, including spoken drama and musical theatre, opera, all types of music from pop to classical and jazz, stand up comedy, and talks. It has even hosted sports events, including snooker and squash. It is currently the home of BBC TV’s Later … with Jools Holland.
It has also hosted many community events, including the Biblio Buzz award for children’s literature, and now has its own young theatre group.
The Friends continues to support the theatre on committees of the Palace Trust, through its newsletters and other events. It also makes small donations in support of particular initiatives, such as the recent display in the East Court commemorating the 150th anniversary of the opening of the theatre in 1875.
